First, came a simple tomato sandwich:
Mercy! I was in heaven….total heaven. These luscious tomatoes came from Sooke’s Alm Organic Farm, a beautiful farmland, that delivers a box program, serves many local markets in our city, as well as many restaurants throughout Sooke and Victoria, B.C.
Honestly, eating this sandwich was like drinking every bite! Then for dinner there had to be a tomato salad.
One time when watching Nigella Lawson’s cooking show, she said she only ever makes a green salad or a red one. I thought I might do that, but I just could not do it. I can’t imagine a salad not having everything in it. So to compromise, I decided to go as simple as I could:
The explosion of sweet, juicy, flavor from these tomatoes was mind boggling. We picked fresh lettuce greens and fresh basil from my garden, to have with these organic market shelling peas and heirloom tomatoes. Then I decided to top the salad with a little crumbled feta cheese, Extra Virgin Olive oil, and a fresh squeeze of lemon. If I were to have a last meal, it would be this salad, and a perfectly grilled porterhouse steak.
As a self professed tomato freak, I have to say, this tomato might be the tastiest I have ever had. And to think DH does not really like fresh tomatoes – poor man! I must remember next time to ask Mary Alice and Marika who manage and run this beautiful farm, what kind of tomatoes these were. Heaven on a plate.
